We went to John lewis when they had a carpet deal on & our living room, dining room & hall was £28 PSM & our bedrooms £23.  We went for cheaper carpet in same colour as not so much traffic.  The underlay we picked was £7 PSM.  They fitted our carpet (5 large rooms & hall way stairs) for just under £600. (£3500 total)

My brother had bought carpet from them & they had free fitting.

Fantastic service.  Not sure about fitting price but the PSM was the same as similar stuff in other shops.  If you aren't bothered about matching exactly off cuts are usually cheaper in carpet shops rather than department stores.

We're using a local shop and its a lot cheaper than when we priced up scs and the carpet is £5 more expensive. I also find them a lot nicer than the rude people working in the chains.

We went to carpet right and weren't expensive. They tried to sell us underlay and their carpet fitter but when the carpet fitter came out he advised that the type of carpet we were getting didn't really need underlay. It's a woven type carpet so not fluffy. It wasn't the cheapest of carpet but as we didn't need underlay it worked out better. It's really hard wearing and neutral so goes with any decor. My oh also haggled with the carpet fitter who then came and done it as a homer instead of through carpet right.

Ours seems really expensive compared to some but they're the cheapest around here! 2 double bedrooms, 1 small bedroom and the stairs and landing, no underlay was £630. That was without hallway as that's tiled, dread to think what it would have been with that as it runs the length of the house, and living rooms not done yet and I'm guessing with underlay that's going to be another couple of hundred. It's laminate until our youngest is potty trained.
